Although the SafeSkies website is no longer active, you can still view an archived copy at the WayBack Machine. This shows the look and feel of the original site and contains snapshots of many pages, taken at different times over several years.
The Safeskies Website
The Safeskies website was created by David Hutton following the Aviation Safety Roundtable held in Ottawa in October 2009. In this landmark event, members of parliament, aviation experts, accident survivors and whistle blowers gathered on Parliament Hill for a discussion on the decline of air safety in Canada. The website captured the day's presentations with video and transcripts.
Over the next six years Hutton developed the site to cover aviation news, the work of aviation safety experts and advocates, critiques of Transport Canada's flawed Safety Management System (SMS), and guidance for aviation whistleblowers. It also included a body count of fatal incidents, and an interactive map of Canada showing the number and locations of these incidents. The site was retired in March 2016.
The WayBack Machine
Being an archive, the WayBack Machine has several limitations:
- all pages in the archive are snapshots from the past
- only a small sample of the pages has been archived
- there are often many versions of a page, from different dates
- many features of the original site won't work (e.g. searches)
- the archiving process continued after the site was retired.
Enjoy!
